If you were going to describe Finland’s Ski resorts, small but perfectly formed would be apt. Messila is a massive 111 metres above sea level, yet offers runs up to 800 metres in length.
Situated on the outskirts of Lahti, Messila really does offer something for everyone. With 10 slopes and two terrain parks, no matter what the level, you will find something to push your limits on.
This is exactly why we have chosen this spot, unlike in the alps where instruction is very difficult due to the spread out nature of the slopes, here we can concentrate entirely on the skills you need, hitting the same section time after time, until you have it dialed (this is the reason the Fins are the undisputed freestyle kings of the winter world), whether that be cruising and practicing your turns or hitting the parks, we’ll be right there with you getting you where you want to be…faster.
A fast, efficient lift service (9 of them, mainly T bars) and very little in the way of crowds mean you will spend a long time riding here. Another fantastic feature of riding in Finland, is that because EVERYONE skis or boards, there is no coolness factor to riding here, because of this you will find it is not image conscious. This helps massively when learning (whether learning to ski/board or hitting up rails and jumps) as people are very encouraging and pleased to see folks trying. This really is a huge thing and helps your progression massively.
As for views, Messila offers some epic ones, down and across the huge Snowkiting paradise that is frozen lake, Vesijarvi. Add a few cafes, two restaurants and a swish Ski hire centre and Messila is the perfect place to spend time when the wind isn’t blowing.
We haven’t even mentioned the 70km of Cross Country Skiing trails, 20km of which is floodlit!
